Emma almost got her first black eye last night. We were out for a drive and stopped by to see some friends who had not seen Emma in about a year. Well I was talking to one of them and Emma came charging over and threw herself at me. I did not see her coming but her face collided with my head and glasses and within seconds, just below her eye, a welt and bruise started forming. She was pretty upset but easily distracted by the dog.

We had an interesting conversation with them as well. They have a 3 month old grandson and their daughter wants to teach him sign language so they were asking questions when they realized Emma knew quite a few signs. And it seems that everyone we have run into that knows about Emma and her signing has thought about her when they have seen the movie "Meet the Fockers." That was pretty fun to watch and Dave even got a kick out of it since he said he actually understood most of the signs they were using with the toddler!

She is actually starting to sign a little bit more infront of people she does not know and I am working with her on this. Most of the time she gets a shy look on her face and stands there with her hands behind her back... Or she will start to sign (or even say something) and then realize where she is and stop suddenly. She has been signing "cat" and "dog" though in public quite a bit if she sees one.

She is napping now and when she wakes up, we are going to run out and by some bear spray in hopes that tomorrow is nice enough to go hiking. The forecast calls for rain but we might luck out. We checked out the trailhead yesterday on our drive and there is no snow there at all. Usually there still is quite a bit. Not a good sign :( I have a feeling it might be a bad fire season here this year.
